Dr. Gustavo Fijalkow

Dr. Gustavo Fijalkow is a dance scholar and practitioner. He received his dance training in Argentina, Germany and the Netherlands. As a professional dancer and performer, he has worked internationally, exploring traditional and academic dance forms as well as site-specific, experimental and interdisciplinary formats, youth theatre and performance. He has collaborated with artists from various disciplines in a wide number of contexts and projects.

For over ten years, he was creative producer and production director at DIN A 13 Tanzcompany, Germany's pioneer company for mixed-ability dance, where he carried out international co-productions with several African, Asian and South American artists. He was also a British Council Fellow at the 2018 Venice Biennale, a juror for the Hull Dance Prize and Clinicien Dramaturg for the Festival TransAmériques in Montreal.

He earned his Master of Arts in International Arts Management with his thesis “Bloodbath-Bloodbond. A historical snapshot of the Work of the Goethe-Institut Tel Aviv (Germany, 2010)” and he obtained his PhD with his dissertation on “National Dance Platforms. A comparative study of the cases in Germany, Israel, the UK and Sri Lanka (UK, 2020).”

Gustavo has conceived and curated several international and interdisciplinary festivals and academic conferences, has lectured at universities and is regularly invited to conferences. He writes for academic and professional publications and is an editorial board member of “TURBA, the journal for global practices in live arts curation.” He has also developed and moderated formats for discussions of the performing arts and their contexts against the backdrop of globalization, able-ism and postcolonialism.
