OPENING OF THE KUNSTFEST WEIMAR 2024

Choreographed by Mirjam Gurtner, six dancers encounter the history of democracy and dictatorship on Weimar's Theaterplatz, from Goethe and Schiller to Buchenwald.

The FORWARD DANCE COMPANY creates new, unconventional and surprising perspectives out of the tensions between intuition and composition. The movements and actions of the dancers are not strictly set, instead they are created afresh in the moment. They make their decisions in real time, which allows their humanity to become visible. This impulsive practice, which is also reflected in the fragmentary, partially electronic music, demands openness, bravery and sensitivity. It can also serve as a model for a different form of co-existence in our society.

A production of FORWARD DANCE COMPANY by LOFFT - DAS THEATER in co-production with Kunstfest Weimar. Supported by the Thüringer Staatskanzlei, TANZPAKT Stadt-Land-Bund with funds from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, by the City of Leipzig - Cultural Office and by the Saxon State Ministry for Science, Culture and Tourism. This measure is co-financed by tax funds on the basis of the budget adopted by the Saxon State Parliament.
